BLACKPLAYER

blackplayer is a mobile music player. while it has (unintrusive) ads and some features behind a paywall, i find usage of the free version enough for usage during my school day.

USER INTERFACE

while i'm still having a little trouble and some uncomfortablity, that can be attributed to being new to the program. the ui is an absolute gift from god with the abundance of customization, and the default ui is still great. the only gripe i have is with the fact that it will put random files that i downloaded on my phone into a little album, which irritates me a bit. same for songs with no album metadata. for example, love taste by moe shop will be grouped in with sound effects from my downloads folder and other songs without album metadata.

while VLC on mobile has gradually gotten more and more updates that i hate with every fiber of my body, blackplayer goes back to the nice simplicity and organization that i liked when i first started using VLC mobile in 2021.

SOUND

sound is wonderful, and the equalizer certainly offers more than VLC did. blackplayer supports gapless playback too, which is something VLC was lacking. great when i have an overabundance of em essex's albums on my phone.
