hi. i live in central washington. the desert. it sucks ass and i hate yakima. also, i used to store my numark pt-01 above our sony stereo. str something. the unfortunate part is that after i found a cord for the numark turntable, i did not take the d cell batteries out. yesterday, they ended up leaking all over the stereo. i turned on bluetooth on my laptop, which'll send a message to the stereo telling it to turn on, and heard noise. "wait, i'm listening to goreshit, not noise! my speakers must be connected to my turntable still! but why is it on?" the noise, however was coming from the stereo itself, not the speakers. all of a sudden smoke starts bellowing out of that part of my media center where our stereo was (where the crt would go if i had one) i pick up my turntable going Fuck why is it doing that. i shut it off. but, my attention turns to the sony stereo, which has now began to spark, while having "PROTECT" on the lcd. i immediately turn it off and the only thing left now is a fuck ton of smoke, an awful plasticy smell (which was made worse than before as i had been burning a trash dvd-r out of boredom,) and an ominous orange spot that was still wet. i then realized, rather then something in the stereo exploding unannounced, the batteries in my turntable may have leaked. and it was recent too (likely happened same day) as the battery acid was still wet. i opened the battery compartment on my turntable, and was assaulted with huge deposits of battery leakage. the turntable is fine, with only the battery compartment being messy as shit as it's on the bottom of the device; so it only went downward. which is bad for the stereo, because that was directly under the turntable. we grabbed some white (wine) vinegar (less acidic so it took a little more effort than it would with normal white vinegar,) isopropyl alcohol (already stays in my room because i need to take batteries out and clean tech that falls into my hands often,) and opened up the sony. my younger brother cleaned the board, and as he has soldering experience he will do soldering if needed. the stereo is still sitting in my room at this moment, i have given it a full day to dry. i will test it when i get home, with the trusty fire extinguisher that i keep next to my media shelf by my side of course.
